Rubies are Red, Your Love Is Too, Here’s 10 Engagement Rings For You!

If you’ve been researching engagement ring alternatives, ruby is another fabulous option for an alternative engagement rings.  This is the third in my series of non-traditional engagement rings, but you should also check out the intro: Diamond Engagement Ring Alternatives and our post on Sapphire engagement rings suggestions.

I love the color of rubies - red, the symbol of love and passion- and in ancient times it was a symbol of nobility and it’s value surpassed even diamonds. It has also been said that Rubies are an aphrodisiac, allowing one to experience all forms of love, from wild sensuality to mystical communion. It deepens a couple’s relationship and encourages closeness and commitment. And in ancient India and China, Rubies were laid beneath the foundation of buildings to secure good fortune to the structure as per Wikipedia. Who wouldn’t want that for the foundation of their marriage? On the scale of hardness rubies measure a 9.0 with only moissanite and diamonds being harder, so it makes an excellent choice for an unique engagement ring.

And Now, Here’s 10 Ruby Engagement Rings I Would Love To Own:

East West 14K Gold Ruby Halo Engagement RingEast West 10K Gold Ruby Halo Engagement Ring

The east-west setting on this engagement ring makes this traditional diamond halo setting unique.  I love east-west rings.  This would look lovely with an eternity wedding band too.  Priced under $500, it would make a pretty right hand ring, anniversary or holiday gift too.

Available in a variety of gold colors (white, yellow and rose gold) and even gemstones, this east west emerald cut engagement ring above is shown with a center AAA ruby surrounded by diamonds.  It takes 1-3 weeks to make before it ships, so if you want this ring for a Christmas engagement better order it by Black Friday - Cyber Monday. (Plus the price is the best at this time too!) While the list price is over 3K, it is currently available under 2K and makes a stunning, unique engagement ring! It’s probably my favorite setting in this list too.

If you’re looking to put a rock on her hand then this 3.70 center cushion cut stunner is for her.  With diamond accents and gold, this will stand out on her ring finger.  And at under $1,000 she will never know it didn’t cost as much as it looks.

Available in a variety of gemstones and metals (10k, 14k, 18k, Platinum, Rose, White or Yellow Gold) you can customize the above ring to fit your taste and budget.  It looks every bit of an engagement ring with it’s traditional solitaire setting but the ruby takes center stage here.  A matching wedding band is also available by GIM Flex, so you can order a complete wedding set.  Priced at just over $1,500 for 18K Gold, this is a beautiful ruby engagement ring.

14K White Gold Emerald Cut Vintage Ruby & Diamond Engagement Ring14K White Gold Emerald Cut Vintage Ruby & Diamond Engagement Ring

If you’re looking for something vintage inspired, this ring has it all - a gorgeous halo and floral antique inspired setting surrounding an emerald cut ruby.  Almost 90% of engagement rings before WWII had gemstones (not diamonds) so this ring fits the vintage theme perfectly.  It can also be made in Yellow or Rose Gold and have a different center stone (but I love the ruby in this setting).  It’s value is over $4k but it is priced just under $2,500 currently.  Available here

If you’re looking for something vintage and dainty this ruby and diamond filigree scroll ring is just perfect.  Plus it’s available in Yellow and the popular Rose gold too - and it is inexpensive enough for a promise ring but pretty enough for an engagement ring too.

Ruby and Diamond Antique Byzantine Engagement Ring in 14K White GoldRuby and Diamond Antique Byzantine Engagement Ring in 14K White Gold

There’s a theme here with vintage inspired rings, and it’s no surprise - your great-grandmother probably had an engagement ring similar to these styles and gems.  This antique replica ring holds 6 side diamonds and a round center cut ruby in a byzantine design. Currently priced Under $400

Diamond & Ruby Engagement Ring with Heart DesignDiamond & Ruby Engagement Ring with Heart Design

At first, I thought this vintage inspired design just had intricate scroll work along the band, but upon closer inspection it has small hearts along the sides along with diamond accents around the halo of the stone.  Pigeon blood red Rubies from Myanmar are the most valued. Such a pretty ring and priced under $1k

14K Gold Classic Halo Style Cushion Ruby & Diamond Engagement Ring14K Gold Classic Halo Style Cushion Ruby & Diamond Engagement Ring

I usually feature my favorite rings in white gold even though many are available in other metals.  I wanted to show you what a ruby engagement ring looks like in Rose gold since it is such a popular metal color now.  This halo, cushion cut engagement ring is very popular in style but features a fabulous red center stone rather than a diamond.  It’s also available in White and Yellow gold, if she prefers those metal colors.  Plus the diamonds in this ring are 100% Natural, un-treated , conflict free diamonds.  Prices range just around $2k

Heart Ruby & Round Diamond Engagement RingHeart Ruby & Round Diamond Engagement Ring

I know, a heart for an engagement ring? But I really couldn’t pass this one up.  It’s just too sweet, simple and the classic eternity band would match beautifully with a wedding band set.  It’s available in white, yellow and rose gold (shown) and in platinum.  Plus I love the rich, deep, pure red color of this ruby.  It’s just too cute for an engagement ring, holiday gift or Valentine’s day present.  Priced from approximately $800-1260 depending on the metal.
